DIRECTIONS TO NEW DAWN

Arriving at the Airport in San Jose As you arrive by plane to Costa Rica, you will go through customs and then be free to enter the airport lobby where you can change some dollars into colones (C.R. money). Then proceed to the far side of the traffic circle in front of the airport where you will locate a bus stop with a sign that says: SAN JOSE. Here you can take a bus to the city for a fraction of the cost of a taxi, but be sure you don't take the bus to ALAUELA. However, if you have lots of luggage, you may want to take a cab to San Jose, which costs about $25. OK- now that you are on the bus to San Jose, take it to the very last stop, which is the bus station. If you arrive to San Jose late in the day (4:00 pm), it is best to stay overnight in the city and travel to New Dawn in the morning.

You can flag a taxi and ask the driver to take you to CASA RIDGEWAY, Ca 15, Av. 6 bis. This is the Quaker's center and is a very peaceful, safe and inexpensive place to stay. You can make reservations before arriving at: tel/fax: 506-233-6168, or friends@racsa.co.cr. If necessary, write it on a piece of paper and hand it to the driver. This fare should cost about $3.  Another alternative is HOSTEL PANGEA, phone: 506-221-1992 or www.hostelpangea.com. Ask the desk clerk for more information about sites of San Jose: The National Museum, The Jade Museum, National Theater and the Serpentarium are a good start.

If you arrive early in the day, you may want to come directly to New Dawn. In this case, you can have the taxi driver take you to the MUSOC BUS station - contigo Hospital CARIT. Here you can buy a ticket for the bus to SAN ISIDRO DEL GENERAL, the town nearest to New Dawn. The last bus for the day leaves at 5:30 pm, so plan accordingly.

Arriving at the Bus Depot in San Isidro del General OK- once you are on the bus to San Isidro, you'll travel 3 hours over the scenic Talamanca Mountains to reach the General Valley where we live. You'll be able to see 3 distinct tropical eco-zones as you pass through these beautiful mountains. When you arrive in San Isidro at the bus depot, there may be taxis waiting in front, and you can take one of these to the farm. If not, then you may have to walk to the park in the center of town where you'll find more cabs. From the bus station you walk 2 blocks west and 2 blocks south. You can also take a bus to New Dawn, which leaves from the local bus station 2 blocks south of the park at 11 am, 2:30 pm, 4:45 pm. and 6:30 pm. The bus is marked PEDREGOSO-SAN RAMON. If you go by taxi or bus, you'll need directions in Spanish to get you to the farm. (See the next section, below)

Arriving at New Dawn (Finca Alba Nueva) The directions in Spanish that you need are: "2 kilometros al norte de Pedregoso en la calle a San Ramon. Mano izquierda 100 metros despues de la entrada Arizona. Primer porton blanco con ALBA NUEVA. From here all you have to do is walk about 250 meters down the hill to the house. The first house you'll see is the student center. Our house is to the left on a small path. CONGRATULATIONS! You Made It! Welcome to our Ecological Health Gardens. Now you can relax and take a swim in the river.
